Born on 20 February 1898 in Modena, Italy, Enzo Ferrari received very basic education, but had a passion for racing cars. After leaving CMN in 1920, Enzo Ferrari worked with Alfa Romeo and started racing for them in local races. These races got him success along with an opportunity to race for a better competition. However, he refused the offer and continued working for Alfa Romeo before starting his own firm.

Ferrari developed cars for Alfa and managed to lay down a team of about 40 racecar drivers including himself. With the birth of his first son “Alfredo Ferrari” in the year 1932, Enzo discontinued racing. Later on, Alfa was resolved due to certain financial constraints that led Ferrari to team up with Pirelli. Race drivers of Scuderia were calibers, but Mercedes dominated the era.

By the year 1937, Alfa Romeo regained control of the racing team and Enzo was the director of sports for them. Enzo resigned soon, however a legal clause restricted him from racing or designing for four years. Ferrari started supplying parts to other racing teams. His firm was heavily involved in war production during the World War II. At the end of the Second World War Enzo started making cars bearing his name and founded Ferrari S.p.A in 1947. The firm’s first victory came in the British Grand Prix of 1951. Ferrari started selling sports car to fund its racing events. Despite the success achieved through the “Le Mans Races”, the company had heavy involvement in the Formula One Races.

FIAT took over a small percentage of stakes and increased it to 56% in the 1960′s. However, Enzo Ferrari remained the managing director till 1971. Even though, he stepped down, his brilliance still influenced the company.

On August 14 1988, the world witnessed the death of Enzo at the age of 90 in Modena. In the year 1988, the McLaren Honda team dominated the season. The team won all the races in that year. However, they failed to win the Italian grand Prix that took place just weeks after the death of Enzo Ferrari.

Before his death the “Ferrari F40″ was launched and till date is dedicated as a symbol of his achievements. In the year 2003, the first car of the company actually bearing his name was launched the “Enzo Ferrari” which again turned out to be one of the best Ferrari’s.

Scuderia Ferrari is a division of the Ferrari automobile company, which is concerned with racing. Scuderia means “stable” in Italian and Ferrari is after the name of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the brand. Scuderia was formed in the year 1929 and consisted of 40 racecar drivers including Enzo at that time.

Ferrari achieved great success in the Le Mans Races. The team made its debut into Formula One at the Italian Grand Prix with the model 125F1. Since then the team has been involved in the Formula One Racing and is one of the best racing teams in Formula One history.

Acer was one of the sponsors for the company till late 2008. Acer also sold laptops with Ferrari badges. Vodafone was also one of the sponsors till 2005, however they too withdrew in favor of the McLaren team.

Many others played the part of sponsors for the Ferrari racing team. FIAT is a major sponsor of the team including others such as Bridgestone, AMD, and Martini. Ferrari also saw sponsorship from the Gulf, such as Mubadla, an investment company of Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways.

The Ferrari racing team has achieved great success over the years particularly in the Formula One racing championships. The team and its drivers have won the “Mille Miglia”‘ 8 times, the “Targa Florio” 7 times and the “24 Hour Le Mans”, 9 times. Formula One achievements for the team are still marked distinctly.

The Ferrari team also managed to lead over Ford as the most successful F1 engine manufacturer with 182 wins compared to Ford’s 176 wins.

As a revolt against Ferrari these men formed a new company ATS, to compete with Ferrari. This was known as “The Great Walkout”. With the outburst of this walkout, the company lost one of their best racing customers the “Scuderia Serenissima”.

Before the big walkout, the company was working on the “250GTO”. This project then landed in the hands of a young engineer “Mauro Forghieri” and a long time racecar body maker, “Sergio Scaglietti”. This project soon managed to improve things for Ferrari. The Dino road cars and legendary models such as the “F275″ and “Daytona” made their way in the market and were amongst the best sellers.

The company witnessed a lot of competition in the early 60s due to the emergence of V8 engine powered “Shelby Cobra”. Ford also tried to buy the company, but failed in their motives. In the year 1966 Fords, “GT-40 Mark 2″ engines dominated the “24 Hours Le Mans race”. After 1967, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) banned the use of prototype engines over 3000cc, which heavily affected the upcoming Ferrari 330P models. To protest this, Scuderia did not take part in the event.

The company also witnessed great challenges by Porsche in 1968 with models such as the “Porsche908″. However, the Ferrari 312PB models dominated the World Sports Car Championship in 1972.

Enzo died in the year 1988 and as a result, the company saw a huge rise in the old car values as well as sales of the new models. The signing of Michael Schumacher was a comeback for the Ferrari F1 Team. From 2004 till date, Fiat Group controls Ferrari and owns 56% stakes of the company.
